The MH-60R Seahawk, officially designated as LAMPS mk IV, is the main helicopter platform of the UCAS and CAS naval forces. In missions ranging from USW to CSAR to VERTREP to HVBSS, the Seahawk is unparalleled in its ability to deliver ordinance and personnel on target on time, without fail. Powered by twin General Electric T700-GE-401D turboshaft engines, each providing 2000 SHP, the Seahawk is capable of speeds up to a 180 kts while carrying loads of up to 1800 kg in weapons, sensors, or supplies. Two universal weapon pylons mount everything from advanced capability torpedos to auxiliary fuel tanks to quad rail Outlaw missile launchers. Coupled to this variety of ordinance is an all glass cockpit and a sensor suite more complex than what's found on most modern combat aircraft. GPS, INS, TACAN, VHF/UHV comms, HF secure comm, high-speed digital datalink, APG-125 multi-mode radar including ISAR capability, UYS-2A enhanced modular signal processor, Airborne Low Frequency Sonar, comprehensive ESM suite, as well as FLIR/laser designator turret all combine to create an all-weather all-mission capable helicopter. The Seahawk's flexibility extends to more than simple combat or surveillance missions. A side-mounted rescue hoist capable of lifting up to 800 kg makes the MH-60R an excellent choice as a SAR asset. A centerline cargo hook, located beneath the aft cabin, is rated up to 3000 kg. To assist in recovery aboard ship in all conditions, the Seahawk is equipped with the Recovery Assist, Secure and Traverse (RAST) system, as well as being able to fold the main rotor blades and tail pylon to decrease the required hangar space for storage. For battlegroup or SAG operations, in day or night, fair weather or foul, blue water or littoral, when the Navy looks for airborne support, they look to the MH-60R Seahawk.
