“Where are you going?”
Riis looked up from her packing to find Taylor leaning against the door.
“Away from him. Away from this Godforsaken place. And don’t try to stop me.”
Taylor nodded to herself, stepping into the room and closing the door behind her.
“Where are you going to go?”
Riis shrugged. “I’ve got some friends downtown who are always looking for fresh meat. I’ve spoken to them and they’re willing to set me up. With the people I know thanks to Frank and Chris, plus all my friends from last year, I figure I have a decent chance.”
“What are you going to tell your mother?” Taylor studied her friend carefully.
“Nothing. And neither will you.” Riis stood to fix her friend with a baleful glare. Taylor held up her hands in surrender.
“All right, all right. You’ve got my number. Call me, day or night.”
Riis shouldered her bag and embraced her friend. “Thanks, it means a lot to me. Don’t say anything to anyone. I’ll call you in a couple of days to let you know how to reach me.”
