Promise is the only NPC I've created who has become a PC. The individual Profile, who was a character in one of my games, was the result of a genengineering project by Saeder-Krupp. She was not a completely viable organism, suffering from terminal DNA deterioration. She did, however, manage to track her origins back to the company and gain contact with the project coordinator, Promise Contoneau. Promise's character is based upon a character of the same name in Steven Barnes' books Street Lethal and Gorgon Child. The child of a destitute single mother, she grew up on the street and at the age of fourteen began selling her body for survival. When she was seventeen, a disreputable talent agency picked her up and paid for her synthskin implants. While it's not a canon piece of cyberware, I use it because it fits my purposes. Synthskin is a stable polymer similar to Ruthenium but lacking its processing power. Instead, it's used to project simple light patterns. It's popular with entertainers and performance artists. Working her way up from simple table girl to executive consort, her street savvy and cunning mind bought her into the world of Corporate troubleshooting. She worked with Saeder-Krupp for seven years before her conscience finally caught up with her and she threw it all away in a desparate attempt to save Profile's life. While her efforts were for naught, she has successfully remade herself again into a shadowrunner dedicated to sabotaging as many projects of her previous employer as she can.

History
Life was going well. As well as can be expected given the fact that you worked as a trouble shooter for the largest corporation in the world and were responsible for two of its most secret projects. Responsible for erasing them that is. The Gorgon and Medusa projects produced only four viable subjects, and only two of those were actually released from the laboratory environment. Still, they were, for all intents and purposes, your children. Which made it difficult to say the least, especially with Profile.
Not only had she searched out her origins, she'd even offered to go into business with you as an SK operative. The collaboration was never to see fruition, though; after a couple of missions the Corp decided that all experimental subjects would be recalled for a final study followed by termination. This didn't sit well with you, and you swore that you would do something about it. It wasn't going to be the first time you disobeyed company orders, but in this case it would be the last.
You made it to Seattle in time to set up a meet with Profile, but you hadn't anticipated the Corp hit team that followed you. They drugged and beat you to within an inch of your life, then used you as bait. You don't remember much until coming too in a car filled with strangers. You recognized them as members of Profile's team, and they confirmed as much. Apparently the Corp got to Profile and her teammates wanted information. Unfortunately you had none to give. You spent two days with them, being ferried around to different hotel rooms until they were satisfied you had no information to give. After that, they left you off on a street corner with clothes and some money.
From there you were able to get in touch with a friend of yours, Gauntlet, who hooked you up with some gear and a place to stay. Very cautiously you checked your previous identity. You found pretty much what you expected: the Corp had deleted you from existence and set a bounty on your head. Not that it was surprising, you'd expected to live the rest of your life looking over your shoulder. The only question remaining was what to do now? Then you remembered Profile's teammates.
