Gabriel began life as John Butler, second son of a moderately successful buisness man living in Charleston, South Carolina. His father, Jerome Butler, worked as an associate in a real estate firm. Gabriel knew most of the luxuries growing up; stable home, stable income, real food, nice clothes, decent car. He attended private schools, excelling in math and science, as well as being captain of the track team. After high school, Gabriel won an atheletic scholarship to Columbia, where he majored in business for two years. Something during the fall of his third year caused him to drop out of school and enlist in the Marine Corps. Qualified as a scout-sniper, he did two tours of duty and served thirty months out of his four year enlistment. Again, an unknown event precipitated his court martial and conviction for theft and destruction of property. Sentenced to three years in a federal penitentiary, he was released in 2048. Gabriel is a black human male, 182 cm tall, 84 kg, with an atheltic build beginning to slide, and a fair number of cyber- and bio-ware implants (Essence 2.01 / Bio-index 4.65).
Two years later, Gabriel turns up as a small time runner in the employment of a fixer calling himself Bartell. Gabriel doesn't stay small time long. Three well executed jobs later and he's recruited and trained a team of six other runners. Together they move up the food chain, enjoying success for five years before a single mission changes everything.
Employed by Ren Raku, Gabriel's team was hired to extract a Sean McConnell from a Yamatetsu research and development center in the Northern Crescent. Taking advantage of a driving snowstorm, the team infiltrates the compound and lifts McConnell, but not before a CorpSec team detonates a charge that brings the entire building down. Escaping into the storm, Gabriel's team is only two kilometers from the center when they stumble into the middle of a Yamatetsu long range security patrol. Drawing down at only five meters apart, the situation is setup to be a bloodbath until a figure approaches out of the storm. Dressed in a white sundress, with blue ribbons in her hair, the small girl steps up to each person, touching them softly on the arm. The two teams separate, disappearing into the snowstorm. We have no hard data on what happened to the Yamatetsu soldiers, but reports indicate they never returned to base.
After that mission, Gabriel's team split up. Shepard, his second in command, took a mercenary job with Debeers-Omni in Africa, while Jonathan, his first recruit, returned to his native Hong Kong. Gabriel himself found religion, using his savings to purchase and refurbish an old church in the Bitterlake neighborhood of Seattle. The Church of the Lord's Way opened it's doors on May 27th, 2057, preaching acceptance and tolerance, and providing shelter to all who asked for it. But the church was only the first step in Gabriel's path. The second was a longer time coming. He spent two years sifting through reports that flowed in from his old contacts, searching for the right personnel. A corps of individuals who all shared the same desire; to fight for those who could not fight for themselves. Thus was born Gabriel's Trust.
Using what remained of his money, as well as the favors owed to him from his years on the street, Gabriel set up a series of missions designed to test and train his personnel, as well as accomplishing goals along their stated purpose. Two months into their collaboration together, Gabriel used the Trust to recover Vanessa McConnell and her son Caleb, the wife and child Sean McConnel thought he lost during his extraction. After having set them up in a small apartment, Gabriel sent the Trust to Milwaukee, WI to a system programmer's conference. Sean McConnell was being let out of his gilded corporate cage to attend, and Gabriel intended to set right what he had once helped go wrong. In a swift, daring raid Gabriel's Trust extracted McConnell from his ExecSec team and smuggled him to a train waiting to take him north. A week later, McConnell was reuinted with his wife and son. Gabriel's Trust was complete.
The following events transpired in my game only.
Shepard, harboring a deep resentment and jealousy of Gabriel's faith, plotted to kill Sean McConnell and his family, reasoning that it would bring Gabriel back into the shadows. During the last battle, both Gabriel and Shepard were killed in an explosion while members of the Trust battled Shepard's team to protect the McConnell family.
